In post-civil war Spain, 10-year-old Ofelia moves into a brutal household under her stepfather's control. She discovers a labyrinth where a faun offers her a chance to reclaim her true identity as an underground princess—but only by completing dangerous, mysterious tasks that test her courage and morality.
Cindy says
Del Toro crafts a masterpiece that weaves dark fairy-tale magic seamlessly into the brutality of fascist Spain. Baquero's performance grounds the surreal horror perfectly, while the creature design and direction are absolutely masterful—this is cinema as pure visual storytelling.
